Game Concept
Clean up the malware-infested cyberspace at supersonic speed using your totally radical roller-skates in Cyberskate!
Cyberskate will be a singleplayer platformer built for WebGL.
In the not so far future, you are a specialized rollerskating robot in the dying business of the robot circus. People just aren’t that impressed anymore that a robot specially made to do tricks can do tricks. To make ends meet, you take up a corporate cleaning job. But this isn’t any regular janitor work, you’ve been hired to clean up the cyberspace from the swarms of viruses and malware that infest it.
Cyberskate will see the player clearing levels of malware (enemies) while trying to build and maintain as much momentum as possible to complete the levels with the highest possible score.
Key Features:
- Fast paced, momentum based movement
- Score meter for hitting enemies, with a multiplier for taking them out at high speed
- Multiple levels to learn and master
- High score tracker to see how you’ve improved
- Medals for achieving above certain scores on levels
Cyberskate is primarily targeted towards those that enjoy easy to learn/hard to master game mechanics and replaying games in order to perfect them and get higher scores. It aims to not be too punishing to still be enjoyable as a casual experience, but will mainly be designed for those that wish to replay the game and master the mechanics.
The idea for Cyberskate first came about when I was replaying Pizza Tower, and thinking about how the games movement gives it a very unique feel unlike any other game I’ve played. This gave me the inspiration for a game that focuses in on what I believe to be the core of Pizza Tower’s fun: its breakneck pace and easy to learn/hard to master movement mechanics.
Inspiration was also taken from games like Ghostrunner, and how they encourage replaying levels and mastering the mechanics in order to get higher scores or better times.
Cyberskate aims to use subtractive design to create a smaller, more focused experience around similarly fast paced movement.
